The disaster has not always caused by the wrath of mother nature. Some of the worst disasters were caused by human activities. The loss of living and financial because of the disaster. Today, I want to show you some of the worst man-made disasters ever happened in our history. All the disaster that I’m about to show you is the recklessness of human behavior. All of the disaster supposed to be avoidable if we applied more cautious in everything we do. So, let’s take a look at all of the disasters below.

1. The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill

The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill

This catastrophic accident happened on March 24, 1989. An oil tanker owned by Exxon Shipping Company had an accident on Prince William Sound’s Bligh Reef at midnight. The aftermath of the accident was so devastating. Almost more than 10 million gallons of crude oil were spilled to the sea surface. The accident caused a horrifying environmental disaster around the area. The disaster claimed 250.000 seabirds, 2800 sea otters, 247 bald eagles, 22 orcas, and much more other. Throughout the history, this is the worst environmental disaster caused by a human.

2. Sidoarjo Mud Spill

This is the industrial disaster that still progressing to this date. Begin in May 2006, a corporation named Lapindo Branta conducted a dig on their site, but an accident made them drilled into a gas pocket and resulting in the gas blow and spilling mud all over the facility. At first, the spill is only around the factory, but from time to times, the mud spill is spreading throughout the province of Sidoarjo of Indonesia. The corporation claimed that they have stopped the spill, but the reality is that the accident grows even worse by the time.

3. Castle Bravo: Bikini Atoll

The Castle Bravo is the nickname of the nuclear test operation conducted by the U.S military at Bikini Atoll. The result of the nuclear test creating an environmental radiation disaster on the Marshall Islands. This event occurred on March 1, 1954.

An offshore oil rig business is something that you must have full control of everything and you must always focus. Nevertheless, human does still make mistakes. And wherever there’s a mistake, there will be an accident. Unfortunately, in the Deep Water Horizon, oil spill accident claimed the lives of 11 people on the rig. The heartbreaking accident was adapted into a documentary movie played by Mark Wahlberg with the title Deep Water Horizon.

5. Bhopal Disaster

If there’s any man-made disaster that has claimed so many lives of innocent people, the worst would be the Bhopal disaster. This catastrophic industrial disaster happened in India on the night of 2-3 December 1984. The accident caused by the Union Carbide India Limited, a company that deals with various of toxic gas. At the night of the incident, one of the gas tank at the factory leaked deadly toxic gas and quickly spread through the province of Bhopal. All the people in the village were panicking and run for their lives. But, as they are running out of their houses, they breathe the toxic gas, choking them up, and instantly killed them. This accident claimed approximately 4 thousands people.

Of course, if we’re talking about the worst man-made disasters, the Chernobyl meltdown is the worst in the history. This accident may not claim so many lives like the Bhopal disaster. But, the aftermath of the meltdown has to turn Pripyat the town near the nuclear reactor into a ghost town. Thousands of people were used to live in that town, but when the accident happened, all the people were evacuated and the town is still leaking with radiation danger.
